Blisters and Homeless for 30 minutes...

So, even though my feet were hurting today, I had to check on my data recovery at the PC shop again and walk all that distance. When I woke up this morning, I took my sock off on my right foot and saw that I had 5 blisters, and one of them was a blood blister. I couldn't even bend my toes without the blisters causing pain. It is slightly better now, but man did they hurt last night. That goes to show you how many miles I have walked. I have walked about 9-12 miles per day for the last 5 days, that is a lot! I think I will start taking the buses more frequently now or buy a bicycle. Either way, my feet have had enough walking. So, the latest news brings me to yet ANOTHER speed bump I encountered. Ever since the laptop repair issue costing me nearly $400, I have had numerous problems it seems.

So, here goes: First, I spoke with the lady regarding the payment for the bed and breakfast and the amount of time I would be staying with her. Well, I do not have the money from the university until the first week of August. So I asked her if it would be OK if I were to pay her half now and half at the end. She didn't seem too worried about it, but then yesterday I walked through the door and she was in the hallway (ahhh!). She started rambling on about how she was nervous about the whole situation and that she wanted me out of the B&B by Tuesday. I had this warm sensation that spread throughout my entire body and my heart dropped to the floor! I couldn't believe this was happening to me. Seriously, what else could possibly go wrong? Ever since I applied for the visa, it seems like I have had one problem after the other. So the lady kept rambling on and was making a HUGE ordeal about the whole situation. I couldn't even get a word in, and when I did, she acted confused and didn't know what I was trying to say. In the end, I told her that I had the full payment for the entire stay and that I would pay her right then and there. She simply said NO and that she did not want to deal with it anymore.

So, I immediately get on the internet searching for a hostel to stay in or a B&B. All of the B&B's were completely booked and so were the hostels. I was getting nervous and very worried. I was picturing myself sleeping in one of the nearby parks (sad for you all, I would not be able to write any more posts for a while). So I went to go see Daphne (lady I am staying with beginning on August 1st) and told her of the situation. She has 3 flats that she rents out right now, so she phoned Joseph, a student at one of the flats. She asked if a room is still available and if I would be able to stay there until August 1st. He had no problems with that and I am still paying the same rate. Daphne and I walked to the flat and arrived after 30 minutes. The flat is TONS better than that stupid B&B closet room. I now have a bigger room, house, my own kitchen, backyard, washing machine, stove, oven, microwave, THE WORKS! So in the end, it worked in my favor. I am actually glad that the crazy scottish lady at the B&B kicked me out. I was so confined in that tiny room. I had about a 6x4 foot space to move around in, NOT fun. Hope everyone is doing great back home and I will keep you all updated on the latest! (hopefully there will be no more speed bumps encountered along the way! Of course, I am sure you guys are amused reading about them!)

You know, I should learn to read this before I check FB, 'cuz this explains things much better. :) Wow, what a mess! I'm glad everything turned out ok in the end.
Saw Harry Potter tonight - somehow I keep getting Hogwarts and the University of Edinburgh mixed up...

Talk to you later!

I only had to pay for 4 nights, so no worries there. The students at this new flat said that payment on August 1st is just fine. So it really did turn out better in the end.

Wow, what a crazy lady! I can't believe someone would kick YOU, someone so nice and responsible, out! You've never done a bad thing in your life! I just cannot believe this bulls&*t! Oh well, I'm so glad that it all worked out for you. You sound much better off at the flat. What a pain though! That was so nice of Daphne to get you moved in before August 1st!

Love you!
Kristin

Hey Dan...

I was telling Joe of your blisters & all the problems you've been having. He said to tell you to wear shoes when you walk that far! (I still think you need to buy yourself a bike.)

I enjoy checking in on you. Aren't you homesick? Do you know anyone over there?

Linda :O)
