Ice Skating, Quite Possibly The Worst Skates I Have EVER Worn...

Went Ice Skating yesterday with a big group from class. Was very random as well. I had just finished class and there were a bunch of students out in the front of the school. They asked if I wanted to go (I was just heading to the library to study, so this sounded a little more appealing). So, I decided to go and take a break from studying for once. It was about a 20 min bus ride out of the city centre. When we got there, we paid for the admission and put our skates on. These skates were the most uncomfortable skates I have every worn. There were no mens hockey skates, only the classic figure skates. My ankles hurt so much after the first hour. Two hours later, it was unbearable. My knees, ankles and heels hurt so bad. We called it quits after 2 hours. It was a lot of fun though, I even took a video on my iPhone but it ended up being way too nauseating for people to watch. Well, off I go to study. I am doing the facial muscles and nerves tonight, woohoo! Really need to work on the nerves and muscles for the Head and Vertebral Column, oh, and ligaments as well. Yikes, already approaching week #4 and I get to go to Langhill farm tomorrow to learn about Farm Economics. For some reason, I have a feeling that this is going to be a boring lecture. Bring on the Anatomy, what's with this Economical stuff? It's not like the Economy is important or anything...Actually, it is good that they are doing this because I have learned so much about how things are done here versus in the US.

I also have some advice for people looking to go to veterinary school or experience that you all can pass on to people that you know are interested. Get as much experience as you can! I cannot tell you how much it has helped me during school and how far ahead I am already. Thanks to all of Bill's nifty stifle drawings on towels in exam rooms, I have perfected my stifle drawings (but on paper, not towels). I know this is just the beginning introductory material and that it will get much more difficult later, but the experience over the last 5 years has helped tremendously! Well, I should be going now, my anatomy book awaits me!

Dan,
Ben has volunteered to help you with your skating, but he says proper equipment is essential. Just kidding. Your mom and I just read the blog. It's nice you''re getting a little goof off time amidst all the booking.

Well tell Ben that I will have he will have to show me his 'professional' skating techniques when I get back in December. Alltel Ice Den, make sure he's got a date set aside so he can show me how to skate properly. Glad to see you are following the blog, I have been so busy lately that I haven't had much to write about (let alone much time).

Dan,
This is a late comment. I just got a chance to catch up. Too much golf and not enough time on computer. LOL!! I am stoked. There is nothing better in life then knowing that some of the things you do have impacted and helped someone later in life. What a blessing. Keep up the good work. Remember surgery is nothing more than anatomy and good/gentle tissue handling. Learn the anatomy well and review it often. You will excel and be a wonderful surgeon. How is the P90X endeavor? I am begin wk 2 of phase II. I often go to the club workout room with my MAC and do the workout there so I have weights and a good pullup bar. Take care. Cheers.

Well you certainly do have to fit in time for golf, that's a MUST! Trust me, all of the information that you and everyone else passed on to me has helped tremendously. Believe it or not, but those drawings that you did in the exam rooms did help quite a bit. I am studying when I have time, have been doing a lot of practical things over the past couple of weeks and animal health and welfare classes. I have been doing anatomy revision just about every night and have the forelimb and hindlimb completely down. Now I have the thoracic muscles, vertebral column, major nerves and vessels and the abdomen to learn yet. The hardest part about the muscles is learning their origin and insertion points, very tedious studying all of these. I am focusing on the more important muscles though. When I come back at Christmas time, I should be able to identify all of the muscles when we do a TTA or hip replacement. Hopefully a hip replacement! You know, I do expect you to teach me all of these orthopedic procedures when I am finished with school...Thanks for the comment and I'll talk with you soon!
