Histology introduction started today, thanks for the book Lisa, it is definitely coming in handy. Today was just the basics, so learning about the different tissue types, epithelial cell types, etc. I think I need to start bringing head phones to the dissection room though, there was this group of students and this one girl had the most obnoxious laugh. Needless to say, it definitely was not the ideal conditions for studying anatomy unfortunately. Once they left, it was much better. It is amazing how much more you retain when you enjoy something. I ran over the forelimb muscles once or twice and had them all memorized. The cool thing is, it is not just memorized, I know them. It is quite fun analyzing why a muscle is named the way it is. If you know your Latin, then you can pretty much figure out what the different names mean. Words like Extensor Carpi Radialis and Flexor Carpi Ulnaris make sense, however, words such as Facies Serrata and Teres Tuberosity are a little more difficult to analyze. It would be nice to have my own dissected specimen so that I could study from it all of the time rather than waiting for the school to put the samples out for us to study from. Oh, and once I get my Anatomy books, that will help quite a bit as well.
Weather was absolutely rubbish today and is still raining as I type. I will be running in the morning with a friend and then will be studying the rest of the day. Will probably be studying all this weekend, and I actually don't mind it. Hope everyone is doing well!

Rubbish, aye? Well we will take some of your rubbish here... we could use some more rain! Sounds like you having some intellectually stimulating lectures. Also sounds like you have retained much of your previously learned knowledge. Right you are about remembering things you are interested in!
Have fun at the club with Josef tomorrow. Study , study!!
Love,
Mom
With all the lightening we had a couple nights ago I wondered if you would be able to take pictures of lightening there. Glad the books are helping. I loved drawing all the cells. And coloring them.
Don't forget to mix fun/down time in with the studying, no matter how much you like it - burn out happens! Will you eventually get your own anatomy specimen, or is this how it is for the entire semester/year? We had teams of 2 - each set of lab partners had their own dog to dissect. It was pretty cool (that's also why my anatomy book still smells like formalin). :)
Well, cancelled the club outing for tonight and may go somewhere else with my group from class. Unfortunately, there really is no lightening here. It's just a constant rain with thunder here and there, but it is rare to see lightening from my experience so far. I know eventually I may burn out, and I am glad I have met a group that wants to get out at least once or twice a week to give the brain a rest. We have no dissection teams as of yet, and I am not sure when they will assign us a specimen. I am assuming that we will be doing this soon, as everyone is scrambling to purchase their dissection kit. Hey, I can even suture the specimen back together because I brought all of my suture instrumentation and suture material (yeah, I am a dork). So far, my technique for studying has been studying the bone anatomy of the forelimb first and then the musculature. Does anyone have any pointers for study techniques for anatomy or histology? Hope everyone is doing well!
